Canadian Women Wrestling — Women's Wrestling — Catfight World

Three Canadian friends discover a fun and unconventional way to improve their fitness when an ordinary conversation over coffee inspires them to begin wrestling one another. All three women are now in their 30s and have reached the point where they would like to become fitter, healthier and more physically active. The only problem is that none of them enjoys the idea of spending hours inside a traditional gym.

As the friends discuss different ways they could exercise together, one of the women reveals that she practised Judo when she was a young girl. She remembers enjoying the physical challenge of learning throws, holds and defensive techniques, as well as the excitement of testing her skills against other students. Although she has missed being involved in grappling, she has never felt comfortable joining a new martial arts class as an adult.

Starting again as a complete beginner in her 30s would mean walking into an unfamiliar gym, training alongside total strangers and going through the awkward experience of learning everything from the beginning. The more she talks about her childhood Judo lessons, however, the more interested her two friends become.

The three women suddenly realise that they do not need to join a formal class to enjoy wrestling again. They already trust one another, feel comfortable competing together and share the same goal of getting fitter. Instead of forcing themselves to attend a gym they dislike, they decide to create their own informal wrestling sessions where they can exercise, learn new skills and motivate each other.

This video captures one of those friendly training sessions. The woman with the Judo background begins by teaching her friends several basic wrestling and grappling techniques. She demonstrates how to maintain balance, control an opponent’s body and use leverage rather than relying entirely on strength. Her friends practise the movements carefully, laughing at their early mistakes while gradually becoming more confident.

Once the instructional part of the session is complete, the women put their new knowledge into practice by taking turns wrestling one another. Each combination of opponents produces a different kind of matchup. The former Judo student possesses the most experience, but her friends are eager to test what they have learned and refuse to make the matches easy for her.

The atmosphere remains friendly and supportive, yet the competition becomes surprisingly intense once each contest begins. The women push, grapple and struggle for control as they attempt to apply the techniques they have just practised. Smiles and laughter are mixed with grunts of effort as each friend tries to gain the upper hand and force her opponent to submit.

Watch three Canadian friends transform their shared dislike of the gym into an energetic wrestling workout filled with learning, competition and friendship. Their unusual fitness sessions prove that exercise can become far more enjoyable when it combines physical challenge with the excitement of competing against people you know and trust.
